As well as having the church built between 1659 and 1661, Prince Elector Karl Ludwig also gave it its name, which means “God will ensure.” It was destroyed in 1693 from the war, but was rebuilt in 1700. The north tower was added in 1717, and the interior was redone in a neo-renaissance style in the late 1800’s. It houses the oldest organ in Heidelberg, built by organ builder Matthias Burkard.
